Concrete House

The Concrete House is a new project we have been working on. The client, a part owner of a large concreting company wanted to create a home showcasing what can be done with his product. We have come up with a design that uses concrete three ways: the first being polished concrete flooring, the second, prefabricated tilt panel walls and the third, a roof showcasing an off-form concrete timber patterned ceiling. Brisbane architects are beginning to use concrete in residential architecture. Doing so can create a very interesting, solid feel where contrasts within and between materials highlight the beauty of each.

Hardwood timber inserts located in and around the house soften the rawness of the concrete. As with most of our designs landscaping features heavily. The home is divided up into four pavilions, all linked by glass walkways. It has an outdoor courtyard off the main living space and a large pool and deck to the north. The design is for an elevated block of land occupying the most northern section of the new California Creek Estate, Cornubia, 30 minutes south of Brisbane. With only one neighbour to the south, all other aspects are bushland.

Its nice to have a project so close to home!
